Armor
Plated The Encyclopedia of Defensive Skills
for NHB and the Street
with Mark Hatmaker
The oft-heard tactic "the best defense is a good offense"
may hold true most of the time in the ring or on the street, but
what happens when your opponent has the same strategy? Like it or
not, you need good defensive skills to be victorious, and the best
resource for them is this hard-hitting video production from Paladin
Press. In it, best-selling author Mark Hatmaker has selected the
most effective arsenal of defensive tactics from both stand-up fighting
and wrestling, giving you the knowledge you need to keep from getting
rocked by a haymaker, pounded in the mount or surprised by a nasty
kick.
Hatmaker begins your instruction with basic techniques that work
against any strike your opponent throws and then moves into the
specifics of defending against punches, blocking kicks and even
stopping elbows, knee strikes and headbutts. He then takes the fight
to the ground, teaching you not only how to best protect against
a grappler's ground and pound game, but also how to turn the tables
and put him on the defensive. If you want to be a true fighter,
a good offense isn't enough. You need a good defense. With this
video, you'll not only have that defense, you'll be "armor
plated". For information purposes only.
Mark Hatmaker is a lifelong student of the martial arts with more
than 24 years of experience in Western boxing, wrestling, and no-holds-barred
fighting. Known as "The Professor of Grappling," he is
widely recognized for his pragmatic, results-oriented approach to
combat training.

Below
the Belt A Complete Arsenal of Low Kicks for
MMA and the Street
with Mark Hatmaker
After years of being asked, "Don't you guys ever kick?"
renowned grappling expert Mark Hatmaker finally unleashes his vast
arsenal of low kicks for MMA and self-defense in this comprehensive
video.
Hatmaker will show you the formidable Thai kicks from the rear
leg and switch kicks that are well known to most fighters, but if
you think they represent the full array of possible kicks, you're
about to get an education.
Stressing the high-percentage kicks that will work almost every
time, Hatmaker demonstrates kicks from the outside range and the
clinch; the brutal "Ax Murderer" series; back kicks to
get out of a rear-clinch situation; cut-kicking; painful and surprising
point kicks; and defenses against any kick imaginable. For the complete
fighter, he launches into an exhaustive display of kicking combinations
followed by kicking and upper-body tool combinations that show you
how to mesh Western boxing strikes with kicking attacks to the thighs,
shins, and ankles. To burn it all in, he gives you kicking chain
drills, kicking conditioning drills, and leg conditioning drills
that rely on sparring contact, not kicking trees because "the
Thais don't do it, and neither should you."
Simply put, Hatmaker proves that if you want to be on top of your
game, you have to go low.

Defense
Dans La Rue, Vol. 1: Savate Street Kicking Vol.
1: Savate Street Kicking
with Craig Gemeiner
In the early 20th century, vicious Parisian gang members calling
themselves The Apaches were all but uncontrollable. The fighting
system called Defense Dans La Rue – created specifically to
combat these thugs by developing techniques more brutal than the
criminals could think of – turned the tide against them. In
this video, instructor Craig Gemeinerr presents a detailed breakdown
of the savate street-kicking techniques of this combat system, combining
it with conditioning exercises and modern pressure drills tailored
to the needs of anyone interested in personal defense. There are
no high kicks and martial-artsy techniques here: this is a fighting
system for real-world combat. For information purposes only.
Craig Gemeiner is the founder of the Gemeiner Martial Arts Academy
in Queensland, Australia, and one of the foremost instructors of
Street Savate, sport-style savate, fencing and savate weaponry in
Australia. He is also a researcher and historian of the European
combat arts and has been a pioneer in the process of rediscovering
Europe's traditional self-defense arts and adapting them to modern
use.

Does
a Broken Board Equal a Broken Nose?
Training to Achieve the Striking Force Proven to Stop an
Attacker
by Brian Struchtemeyer
Precisely how hard do you have to hit to stop an attacker? And
how do you train to develop that level of force? In this groundbreaking
training guide, Brian Struchtemeyer details the exact level of impact
force found in modern "less-than-lethal" weapons used
by law enforcement to physically subdue criminal suspects and shows
you how to attain this level of force with your punches. When officers
use LTL tools, they are able to reliably stop more than 90 percent
of criminal suspects - and that's when they are only aiming at the
thighs or abdomen. They know these tools could cause severe injury
or even death if aimed at more vulnerable body parts such as the
head and neck.
Struchtemeyer integrates the long sought-after answer of how hard
is hard enough with an engaging and often humorous cross-cultural
study on the history, nature and practical use of surrogate targets,
including the heavy bag and Okinawan makiwara. Along the way he
connects a diverse range of topics, including psychology, early
American football and the statistics of random chance, to the simple
goal of effective stopping power in unarmed strikes. Finally, these
varied topics are synthesized into a set of training drills using
surrogate targets that allow you to measure the force of your blows
so you know when you are hitting with the same level of impact force
proven by law enforcement officers to stop a violent opponent in
his tracks.
Brian Struchtemeyer is a longtime student of Matsubayshi-ryu Shorin-ryu.
He has also studied many other styles, systems and persuasions of
self-defense. His personal interest lies in removing myth and superstition
from martial arts by improving the facts, data and measurements
used in self-defense training.

Kalarippayat
India's Ancient Martial Art
by D H Luijendijk
Although most of India's martial arts have been lost over time,
the southwestern state of Kerala maintains a rich martial tradition
in the ancient art of kalarippayat, a complete system that incorporates
empty-hand fighting, weaponcraft and a sophisticated method of massage
and healing. After 10 years of intensive study, author D.H. Luijendijk
is one of a handful of Westerners to reach the instructor level
in the northern, central and southern branches of this obscure art,
which traces its origins back to at least the 9th century BC. Brutal
and effective, kalarippayat thrived for centuries until the British
colonial government banned it in 1804 in response to a series of
revolts. After that, it was practiced in secret, passed down mostly
within certain families, until nationalists began promoting it as
an expression of Keralan culture early in the 20th century. With
this book, Luijendijk reveals the hidden treasures of this exotic
art to the outside world. Against the colorful backdrop of kalarippayat's
historical and religious underpinnings, he offers a rare glimpse
into the concepts, stances, footwork, forms, techniques, weaponry
and martial applications of each of the art's three main traditions.
D.H. Luijendijk is a native of Holland who studied judo and kung
fu in his youth and became interested in the functional aspects
of kalarippayat while studying at the university in Sri Lanka. A
visit to Kerala led to his studying full time under Grandmaster
Sherif, whose ancestors trained the army and bodyguard of the raja
of Chirakkal. He trained full time in Kerala for several years and
then returned for months of intensive training each year. In 2003
he earned the title of asan, or master. He also lived in Iran for
a number of years, studying that country's indiginous martial arts.

No Tap! Catch Wrestling for Streetfighting and Self-Defense
Volume Two: Takedowns and Throws
with Tony Cecchine
Arguably the most brutal mixed martial art practiced today, catch
wrestling's devastating arsenal of strikes, takedowns, throws, flesh-tearing
rips, and bone-shattering hooks has been copied by many, but mastered
by only a few. In this extraordinary video series from Paladin Press,
expert catch wrestler Tony Cecchine teaches you catch's most street-worthy
techniques, combining hard-core grappling with brutal striking to
provide you with a turnkey self-defense system that will make you
unbeatable on the street.
In Volume Two: Takedowns and Throws, Cecchine first shows the high-percentage
takedowns that make catch such a formidable art. He dispels the
myths surrounding the street use of single- and double-leg takedowns,
teaching you how to put someone onto the pavement and keep him there
without compromising your balance. From there, he goes into fireman's
carries and the duck under, one of catch wrestling's least understood
but most powerful moves. He also shows a series of throws from various
positions that can cause serious injury or even death. For information
purposes only.
Tony Cecchine has been involved with American Catch as Catch Can
Wrestling since 1977 and has been recognized as its leading exponent
by the World Head of Family Sokeship Council, an organization that
votes on the premier martial artists from various styles (members
include such luminaries as Wally Jay, Helio Gracie, and Ernesto
Presas). The late, great Lou Thesz, considered by many as the greatest
catch wrestler of all-time, dubbed Cecchine a "hooker,"
recognizing Tony's submission and wrestling skills as the highest
a catch wrestler could achieve. Tony understands both the intricacies
of hooking and its place in an overall integrated fighting system
built on wrestling and boxing fundamentals.
Tony's instructional videos have received rave reviews and have
been used to train professional Mixed Martial Arts fighters and
other professional athletes, as well as regular Joes. As one online
reviewer said of Tony and his art, "His philosophy is simple

The
Art and Science of Mook Jong Slam Set Evolutions

took the world by storm with his best-selling Mook Jong Slam Set

functional movement and explosive power, not martial arts dogma.
The Art and Science of Mook Jong: Slam Set Evolutions builds on
that foundation of technique, taking your fighting skills to the
next level and beyond. New skills Simonet teaches in this video
include a series of counter-grappling techniques designed to demolish
a seasoned groundfighter; takedown defenses that will not only stun
your opponent, but also set him up for a devastating throw; stand-up
defenses against even the strongest punches and kicks; and an improved
putar kepala throw guaranteed to both disorient and destroy an attacker.
To be a true martial artist, a true warrior, you need to refine
your fighting skills to the highest level: this evolution of the

The
Art and Science of Mook Jong: The Club Set The
Club Set
with Joseph Simonet Drawing from the functional, combat-ready movements
of his best-selling Mook Jong Slam Set video, master martial artist
Joseph Simonet teaches you a simple, brutal stick fighting system
in this original video production from Paladin Press. In it, he
focuses on teaching a streamlined version of the Slam Set, adding
a stick rather than just going empty-handed. Taking best advantage
of this novel approach to wooden dummy training, Simonet shows you
how you can train full speed and full force on a partner that won't
complain, get injured or quit.
This isn't the fancy stick-dancing you may have seen in other instructional
videos: it's a hard-core, street-ready fighting system that teaches
crippling strikes with both the business end and the handle end;
close-range attacks that can lead to applying chokes, locks and
takedowns; two-handed stick hits to your opponent's most vital areas;
and more.
If you're looking for complicated flow drills and finesse-filled
techniques, go elsewhere. The Club Set is all about finishing your
opponent using the simplest of weapons in the easiest, most effective
way. For information purposes only.

The
Art and Science of Mook Jong: TheBlade Set The
Blade Set
with Joseph Simonet One of the most innovative minds in martial
arts today, Joseph Simonet is always learning, always refining,
always improving. Now, in this groundbreaking video production from
Paladin Press, Simonet has taken his best-selling Mook Jong Slam
Set material and adapted it to create a functional knife fighting
program suitable for any type of combat involving edged weapons.
Wooden dummy training allows you to perform techniques full force
and at full speed, simulating a real fight in the way practicing
with a live partner can't without inflicting serious injury. Using
that as a guiding principle, Simonet prepares you for a real knife
fight by teaching a short form on the dummy that burns in simultaneous
block and attack, moving through your opponent to disrupt his base,
lightning-fast slashing attacks, initial stunning strikes to set
up a fight-stopping cut and much more.
A knife fight isn't a game. Every movement in this form is designed
to damage your attacker, cripple him or end the fight once and for
all. For information purposes only.
